Great Holiday Drinks – No Booze Required

‘Tis the season of office parties and New Year’s toasts, all of which can feel complicated for those of us who are trying to watch how much we drink. Non-alcoholic cocktails, or “mocktails,” are a fun, festive and delicious treat for yourself and your guests during the holiday season.

Here are some festive, non-alcoholic ‘mocktail’ recipes to try:

Cranberry-Apple Cider Punch

  • 4 cups apple cider

  • 2 cups cranberry juice cocktail

  • 2 cups ginger ale

  • 1 can (12oz.) frozen orange juice concentrate

  • Apple slices & orange slices for garnish

  • Frozen cranberries or rosemary cranberry sprig for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a 4 quart container, combine cider, juice, and orange juice concentrate. Refrigerate until serving time.

  2. Just before serving pour punch into punch bowl and add chilled ginger ale.

  3. Garnish with frozen cranberries, apple & orange slices.

 

Chai Blossom

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice

  • 8–12 oz. club soda

  • 4 lemon twists

  • 2 chai tea bags

  • 4 whole star anise pods (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine tea bags and 1 cup boiling water in a small bowl; cover and let sit 8–10 minutes.

  2. Add sugar; stir to dissolve. Discard tea bags and let cool.

  3. Stir chai syrup and lime juice in a pitcher to combine.

  4. Divide among 4 rocks glasses filled with ice and add 2–3 oz. club soda to each. Garnish with anise pods and lemon twists.

 

Mint Lime-aid

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup mint leaves

  • 2 ounces honey syrup (a mix of ½ honey ½ water)

  • 1 1/2 ounces lime juice

  • Club soda or seltzer

Instructions:

  1. Make the honey syrup: In heavy medium saucepan over medium heat, stir together honey and water until honey dissolves. Simmer 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  2. Refrigerate syrup until cold, about 2 hours.

  3. In 12-ounce glass, muddle mint and simple syrup for about 8 seconds.

  4. Add ice and lime juice, then fill with club soda. Stir well and serve.

 

Sparkling Spritzer

  • ½ cup Non-alcoholic sparkling wine soda

  • ½ cup ginger ale

  • 1 splash fresh lime juice

  • Candied ginger (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Combine ingredients.

  2. Pour into an elegant glass and add a piece of candied ginger cut to fit over rim of glass for garnish.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chilled coconut water

  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice

  • 2 to 4 drops liquid stevia or your favorite sweetener

  • 3 drops bitters (optional)

  • 1/2 cup club soda

Instructions:

  1. In a jar, stir or shake together the coconut water, lime juice, stevia, and optional bitters.

  2. Divide the mixture between two glasses, then fill each glass with 1/4 cup or more club soda and serve.

 

Rosemary Citrus Spritzer

  • 2 lemons

  • 2 oranges

  • 4 (4-inch) sprigs fresh rosemary

  • 3/4 cups sugar

  • 1/4 cup honey

  • Ice

  • Soda water

  • Rosemary and lemon for garnish (optional)

Instructions (for 6-10 drinks):

  1. Peel off thick strips of zest from 1 lemon.

  2. Juice the lemons and oranges into a liquid measuring cup – you should have about 1 cup of juice.

  3. Combine zest, juice, rosemary, sugar, and honey in a saucepan over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugars.

  4. Remove from heat and let sit 10 minutes. Strain, discard solids, and let syrup cool completely.

  5. To serve, fill an 8-ounce glass halfway with ice cubes, add 2-3 tablespoons syrup, fill with soda water, and stir.

  6. Garnish with rosemary sprigs and/or lemon slices, if desired.
